Pregnancy and Your Pet: Preparing Your Furry Friend for Baby’s Arrival

Comments · 19 Views

Welcoming a new baby into your family while caring for your beloved pets is a rewarding journey. With love and thoughtful planning.

You may prepare for your baby’s arrival from the time of conception to the third trimester. During this crucial stage of your life, you shouldn’t forget that you’re the mother of your furry baby. Remember, they are clueless about what’s going on. Therefore, it’s always better for you to prepare your pets for your baby just like you would. Here are a few ways to keep your pets ready for your baby’s arrival

Give Your Pet Time to Adjust

Before your little one comes home, set up a nursery for your little one in advance and keep a stock of powders, wipes, lotions, etc with it. Once that is done, allow your pet/s to come inside the room to see, smell and get the feel of the new environment. Gradually, your pet/s will adjust to the layout and smells of the new room. It will start getting the vibes of someone’s coming.

Training and Behavioural Adjustments

Before you welcome your newborn into your life, slowly reduce the amount of attention you give to your pet by encouraging good behaviour. Reward them with your praises and treats when they show their good behaviour.

Setting New Boundaries is Essential

You may have to restrict your pet’s access to a few rooms or areas in the house. Ensure that you encourage your pet’s limit positively. You can also put your pet in a comfy and quiet place away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the household. A quiet place would also be safe and secure.

Health and Hygiene Concerns

That’s the priority. Wash the bed linens and beddings, soft toys as well as kitchen utensils properly. Use air purifiers. Get your floors cleaned properly so that pet hair and dander are not there. Also, get your pets regularly checked with the vet as your furry baby should be updated on vaccines and control of parasites.

Welcoming a new baby into your family while caring for your beloved pets is a rewarding journey. With love and thoughtful planning, you can create a harmonious home where both your baby and pets thrive.
