Utilizing QuickBooks Conversion Tool to Move from Sage 50 to QB Desktop

You can successfully move your data to QB Desktop using the QuickBooks Conversion Tool.

Step 1: Check System Requirements

Before initiating the conversion process, review the system requirements. Make sure that your computer meets the minimum requirements mentioned below.

  • Operating system compatibility (e.g., Windows 10, 8.1 or 8)

  • Processor speed: 500MHz Intel Pentium ii 

  • Hard drive: 2.5 GB ( free space) 

  • Microsoft .NET Framework: Version 2.0

  • QuickBooks Desktop: Pro, Premier, or Enterprise 2018 

  • RAM: 512 MB 

Note: If you have Sage 50 of 2014 or older version, this tool does not work.

Step 2: Prepare for the Conversion Process

  • Install QuickBooks Desktop on the same computer where Sage 50 is currently installed.

  • Make sure to save your data on the local hard drive.  

  • If not, move them before starting to avoid errors.

  • Converting over a network or server can cause issues; convert on the server if needed.

  • Back up the data of Sage 50 before converting it.

Step 3: Setup Sage 50 Accurately

  • Ensure to have admin user access.

  • Open Sage 50, then the file you want to convert.

  • Navigate to Maintain, then select Users, and after that, click on 'Setup Security.'

  • Choose the 'Data Access/Crystal Reports' tab.

  • Select 'With the following login information.'

  • Click 'Change' to set a transfer password( max. eight character

  • Save changes by selecting 'OK.'

Step 4: Download the Conversion Tool

  • Download the QuickBooks Conversion Tool from the official site and save it.

  • Access the folder where the data file is stored.

  • Right-click on the QuickBooks Conversion Tool icon.

  • After that, choose Properties.

  • In Compatibility mode, checkmark "Run this program in compatibility for:" and choose Windows 8 (even on Windows 10), then click OK.

  • Right-click QuickBooksConversionToolSetup.exe and choose 'Run as Administrator.'

Step 5: Convert the Data

  • In the tool, click 'Browse' search and select the Sage 50 company file for conversion.

  • In the Pervasive 32-bit ODBC engine DSN Setup window, choose your company file from the 'Database Name' dropdown menu and click 'OK.'

  • Enter the Sage 50 password you created, then choose 'Next.'

  • Select the QuickBooks Desktop version and edition for data migration.

  • Avoid special characters.

  • Click on 'Browse,' choose a folder where you want to save the data, and then click on 'Next.' 

  • Review everything, then choose 'Convert File.'

  • QuickBooks will open, requesting access to the company file through an Application certificate.

  • Confirm access in QuickBooks by selecting 'Yes,' 'Prompt Each time,' then 'Continue.'

  • The conversion tool will run automatically and take some time to complete. If the conversion is successful, you will receive a notification.
