That’s exactly what I felt on the Annapurna Base Camp trek via Ghandruk. This journey wasn’t just about the destination. It was about the smiles of villagers, the quiet forests, and the feeling of peace that filled every step. I had done the Mardi Himal trek before, but this trail gave me something new—a deep connection to nature and culture.

Starting the Journey in Ghandruk

We began our trek from Ghandruk, a beautiful Gurung village with stone-paved paths, friendly locals, and mountain views all around. Walking through the village felt like stepping back in time. Kids played outside, women worked in their gardens, and old men sat in the sun sharing stories. We spent our first night there, enjoying hot dal bhat and chatting with our hosts. It was the perfect way to start the adventure.

From Ghandruk, we followed the trail that took us through peaceful forests and up toward the Himalayas. Each day was different—sometimes we walked under green trees and waterfalls, and other times we climbed stone steps that seemed to stretch forever. But the views always made the effort worth it.

One of my favorite parts of the trek was staying in local tea houses. These simple lodges gave us warm food, cozy beds, and a chance to meet other trekkers from around the world. In the evenings, we’d sit around the stove, sipping ginger tea and sharing stories. There was no Wi-Fi or distractions—just laughter, connection, and the sound of the wind outside.

We also passed through several small villages like Chhomrong and Bamboo. In each place, I was touched by the kindness of the people. Even with little, they gave us their best. Their spirit and smiles taught me that happiness doesn’t need much—just heart.

The Final Stretch to Base Camp

As we got closer to base camp, the air grew thinner and the views grew bigger. Snow-covered peaks surrounded us on all sides. The trail opened into a wide valley with Annapurna I, Hiunchuli, and Machapuchare towering above. It felt like walking into a hidden world.

Reaching Annapurna Base Camp was emotional. We stood in the middle of a giant mountain circle, the sky glowing orange at sunset. Some trekkers cried, some laughed, and others sat in silence. For me, it was a mix of everything—pride, joy, and deep peace. I had made it, and every step had been worth it.
