Steel Round Bars: An Essential Material for Construction and More

Comments ยท 2 Views

Steel bar stock, also known as rolled steel bars, are long cylindrical rods made from steel that are commonly used as a basic building material in construction and manufacturing.

What are Steel bar stock?

Rolled into perfectly round shapes during the manufacturing process, steel bar stock are available in different diameters and lengths depending on their intended application.

Composition and Grades of Steel bar stock

Steel bar stock are made primarily from iron alloyed with carbon, along with other elements such as manganese, chromium, nickel, molybdenum and vanadium. The proportions and types of additional elements determine the grades or types of steel bars available. Common grades include:

- Carbon steel: Contains up to 2.1% carbon and is a basic, affordable option for general applications not requiring high strength.

- Low alloy steel: Contains carbon along with other alloying elements like chromium or molybdenum, offering better corrosion resistance and strength than carbon steel.

- Stainless steel: Steel Round Bars Contains a minimum of 10.5% chromium which forms a thin, invisible protective oxide film offering excellent corrosion resistance. Other elements like nickel may also be added.

- High strength low alloy (HSLA) steel: Contains carbon along with elements like chromium, nickel and molybdenum to provide strength comparable to low alloy steel but with improved weldability and formability.

- Tool steel: Contains higher amounts of alloying elements like tungsten, vanadium or molybdenum to offer high strength retention even after heat treatment, making it suitable for tools and dies.
