Green pepper, also known as bell pepper, belongs to the species Capsicum annuum. Its exact origins are unclear but it is thought to have originated in Mexico and Central America where it has been cultivated for thousands of years. The healthy antioxidants in peppers, especially vitamin C, make them very good for skin and eye health. They also contain dietary fiber that aids digestion. The flavonoids and carotenoids in peppers have anti-inflammatory properties and may help reduce risk of heart disease and cancer.
